Dear City College Community,
On Thursday night, City College Trustees Heather Brandt, Alan Wong, Murrell Green, Anita Martinez, Vick Chung, and Susan Solomon took decisive action to address the growing waitlist crisis at our school. Over 2,800 students are currently waiting for seats in classes and that number could have risen to over 6,000 by the end of August, which would have been a travesty. But thankfully our Trustees took action.
CCSF Trustees unanimously passed a motion Thursday expanding on their earlier Rehire Resolution from May by specifying that the process of rehiring faculty needs to begin right now, starting in departments where there is urgent need. Our Trustees also clarified that the entire rehiring process needs to be completed by summer 2024 (not 2025 as stated in the May Resolution). This was the urgency that our students and city deserved.
As the union of City College’s instructors, librarians, coaches, and counselors, we look forward to working with Chancellor David Martin on immediately implementing his Board’s recommendation. San Francisco’s students deserve a thriving City College that is ready to meet their needs for degrees, quality jobs, and hope. Thank you again to our community for defending this mission.
