Social distancing, Spring 2022 | UC-AFT on STRIKE!

Social distancing, Spring 2022

If we become a “fully vaccinated” school, the CDC would allow us to remove social distancing rules. This has created a huge campus buzz. To be clear, in most departments a policy change is NOT necessary to add sections and create more access for our students – HEERF funds pay for that, and the college had already planned to add FTE as needed for distancing.

But we are not yet a fully vaccinated school. With COVID cases on the rise, and other safety measures being used inconsistently around the college, it’s not clear when we will be able to safely remove distancing. AFT polled members and found mixed results. 34.4% of respondents said they support removing social distancing requirements, 47.6% said they oppose it, and the rest were undecided. Results varied based on department and whether the respondents expect to work in person next semester. For more detailed results click here.

As of Wednesday morning, administration is recommending that we keep social distancing rules for Spring. As a union, we support measures that protect the health and safety of members and of our community. These policies are not about our convenience – they’re in place to protect the most vulnerable. In most departments, our college can choose to expand access for students by simply adding sections instead of changing policies.

What you can do:
Help CCSF become a fully vaccinated school! To date, only about 65% of faculty have reported their vaccination status or applied for exemptions. That won’t be enough. Report your status or apply for an exemption here: https://www.ccsf.edu/covid-19-updates

UC-AFT on Strike!

Your siblings in UC-AFT have called for an Unfair Labor Practices strike on 11/17 and 11/18. The strike will take place at nine UC campuses throughout the state.

This strike is about a pattern of bad faith bargaining and unfair labor practices committed by UC management. Now AFT members are saying enough is enough.

Come join the picket line at UC Berkeley!
11/17 & 11/18, 10am to 5pm
