(10/7) Rally to protest homophobic Contractor Centric

On Wednesday, September 29th, 2021, members of the SF Building Trades attempted to contact on-site construction management of Centric General Contractors regarding area standards. They were met with a representative of Centric hurling homophobic slurs at them and engaging in offensive physical body gestures, in addition to anti-union sentiment. This kind of conduct has no place in San Francisco and violates our community standards. The San Francisco Labor Council and the LGBTQIA community are calling on Hotel Vitale to end its relationship with this contractor immediately. Join us!

WHAT: Rally to Protest Homophobic and Anti-Union Behavior & Call on Hotel Vitale to End its Contract with Centric General Contractors

WHO: San Francisco Labor Council, San Francisco Building Trades Council, union members, Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club, Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club, community members

WHEN: Thursday, October 7th at 4:30 PM

WHERE: Hotel Vitale ~ 8 Mission Street in San Francisco

WHY: Our community is united against all forms of hate and will not tolerate exploitation of any worker

Local labor: Some wins & you’re still needed on the picket line!

This is the third week of the Stationary Engineers Local 39 strike at Kaiser. 700 Engineers are on strike all over Northern California. They’ve been working without a contract for weeks, and management has refused to negotiate.

A few of us were there on the picket lines Monday to show our support. We happened to be there right when management announced that they’ll come back to the table. They have a bargaining date coming up 10/15.

Pickets continue in the meantime. Come out and join the picket line any day this week at 2425 Geary!

Dandelion Chocolate workers have narrowly won their union certification! They are now officially recognized by the National Labor Relations Board, unionized and affiliated with ILWU. The new union has a hard contract fight ahead, and AFT 2121 will be there to support!

SF Giants Concessions Workers, represented by Unite Here Local 2, have won their fight for fair wages and COVID safety! It took at strike threat and a one-day walkout. They won a pay increase, separate hazard pay, and significant safety improvements. An SFGate article quotes Local 2 President Anand Singh: “When you strike a deal like this, especially at a time like this, it has an impact on workers everywhere. It should send a message to other employers that we deal with that times may be difficult, but working people haven’t given up their determination and their resolve in securing what’s fair.”
