Topics may include our current COVID Impacts agreements, including leaves, evals, and class size, as well as new topics such as the upcoming vaccine mandate. We will not solve everything in one session but we hope to make a good start on ensuring safe working and learning conditions for our college.

Fall 2021 Evaluations and Tenure Review

Last year, AFT 2121 negotiated a streamlined process for emergency COVID conditions. Now, in Fall 2021, we are still using that streamlined process. We’ve been getting a lot of questions about this, especially since Tom Boegel‘s confusing memo to evaluation committees. Here are the main points that need clarification:

  • Student surveys for temporary remote assignments, for all types of evaluation, have been shortened. You can find those at the end of the 2020 agreement.
  • Faculty who are not under tenure review may choose whether or not they wish to be observed.
  • Faculty under tenure review should be observed as normal.
  • Where possible, when teams are conducting observations we recommend observing in-person assignments or IOTL-certified classes. Those are more representative of our actual skills and methods than temporary distance ed.

Details are here: Evals are a go!

There’s a video explanation, and if you scroll down the page you’ll see the provisions of the agreement laid out.

The text of the 2021 agreement is here. The section on evals starts on page 6.
