Updated Time and Topic for your Monthly Committee on Political Education (COPE) Meeting this Tuesday, Sept 21, from 2-3pm
A correction and update: This month, COPE will be held from 2-3pm (normal time) with no endorsement vote. David Campos (whom we have endorsed several times, most recently for his current role as Vice Chair of the California Democratic party) will be coming to discuss his plans to run for Assemblymember in the event of a vacancy in AD 17. Campos will also be discussing the vision for public higher ed at the state level. This is a chance for our members to have facetime with the second of two of our previously endorsed candidates who intend to run for assemblymember in AD 17.
A reminder also that your Delegate Assembly meets Tuesday, 9/21, from 3-5pm: DA AGENDA & DRAFT MINUTES. All members are encouraged to attend.
No Recall Win
Dozens of you joined union members around the state for the past several weeks to make thousands of calls, knock on thousands of doors, and talk to California voters about the stakes of the gubernatorial recall election. Together, you all helped turn the tide (see also). In late July, 50% of likely voters supported the recall, but last Tuesday, over 63% of California voters said NO to the Republican backed anti-union recall. Workers organizing together made that possible, so a huge shout out to all of you who participated and to Kim Tavaglione and the San Francisco Labor Council for helping lead the fight. #UnionStrong #1u #StoppedTheRecall
