AFT 2121 End-of-Year Party
Despite all the challenges 2020 has thrown our way, we managed to pull out many small and big victories. Join us this Friday, December 18 (3-5pm) as we celebrate our members’ successes with a little holiday cheer at the Affirmative Action Task Force/AFT 2121 End-of-Year Party. Our gifted faculty will lead us in singing and a dance party, poetry and music, a cocktail/mocktail tutorial, and some paper crafts with everyday household supplies (assorted paper, scissors, glue, and tape). All faculty, their families, and PETS are invited to don your holiday best and join for an evening of merriment!
To attend, follow this link from your computer or smartphone: https://aft.zoom.us/j/3145027798 OR call 1-669-900-6833 then follow the prompts to enter the meeting ID #314 502 7798.
Standing up for the CCSF San Franciscans deserve
On Tuesday, in collaboration with AFT 2121 faculty and CCSF students, District 6 Supervisor Matt Haney took two actions to support our CCSF:
- Adding his name to AFT 2121’s vision: CRISIS LEARNING: The virtual campuses our non credit students deserve!
- Introducing a Resolution Urging City College of San Francisco to Reopen the 750 Eddy Campus and Maintain a Presence in the Central City
When introducing the resolution at the Board of Supervisors Haney said: ” The Civic Center campus provides critical foundational classes for our low-income and immigrant students to pursue higher education, learn life skills, and find opportunity. Located at such a central location of the campus, located near BART, MUNI, and other transit stops, makes this especially accessible for working-class adult learners, who make a majority of our City’s essential workforce and it provides a valuable resource for residents in the Tenderloin.”
Georgia phone banks
The results of the Georgia Senate Elections on January 5th, 2021 will affect education funding nationwide and in turn will directly impact CCSF’s funding.
Sign up to join fellow AFT volunteers and our partners at The New Georgia Project Action Fund to make calls to Georgia voters to make sure that they cast their ballot in the January 5th, 2021 runoff election.
Don’t worry if you’ve never made calls or volunteered for an election before. There will be a training and and ability to ask questions before you start making calls.
January medical premiums: December 27th deadline
Many part-time faculty face unemployment and loss of benefits. We are currently in impact bargaining over this and other issues. As of this writing, we do not have a specific agreement for Spring 2021, and CCSF’s regular policy is still in effect.
- If you have a Spring 2021 assignment worth 50% or more, your benefits will continue as normal and you don’t need to worry about this.
- If you have no assignment in Spring, you are still eligible for January benefits. But since you won’t have a paycheck, HR has no way to deduct your normal employee premium. To maintain benefits for January, pay the employee part of the premium directly to the college. The deadline to pay is December 27th. Your benefits will continue through January 31st.
- If you’re enrolled in Kaiser Member Only, you have no premium to pay. Your benefits will continue through January 31st automatically. You don’t have to do anything to arrange it.
- If you have an assignment, but it’s less than 50%, the January deduction will be taken from your January paycheck. Benefits will continue through January 31st. You don’t have to do anything to arrange it.
- If you pay the college for the premium, and then receive an assignment over 50%, they will refund the payment you made. The refund should happen at the end of February.
- If you do not pay by December 27th, and you do not have a Spring assignment, your benefits will run only through December 31, 2020. You will not be covered in January.
If you are a part-timer and have Fall 2020 benefits, you should have received a letter from HR listing the new January rates, and instructing you to pay by mailing a check to:
AFT 2121 office closed
Due to the closure of CCSF for Winter Break, the AFT 2121 office will also be closed December 19, 2020 through January 3, 2021 and will reopen January 4, 2021. We wish everyone a safe and restful break.
