Affirmative Action Task Force news

Rally / Hearing of Joint Education Committee

Friday, January 31st
9:30 am rally & press conference
10:00 am Joint Education Committee

Supervisor Walton called for this hearing on the effects that CCSF class cuts have on low income students and students of color. Please come to give public comment. We especially need to push back on the administration’s narrative that their agenda is good for students of color when they are decimating African American Studies, Philippine Studies, etc. PLEASE RSVP

Dismantling Racism: An Affinity Space for Black and Brown Faculty

On the Jan 10th Flex Day, AFT 2121 Affirmative Action Task Force held an Affinity Space workshop for Black and Brown faculty. We reviewed and discussed the survey results from our newly released assessment report: A College Within a College: Institutional Racism & Disparity of African-American, Native-American and Latinx Faculty at City College of San Francisco. We had many rich discussions including: “Why is there a disparity in the experience of African American, Indigenous, and Latino/Latina/Latinx faculty members?” and “How can we conceptually move forward?”  We ended with reflection on considerations for professional development, self-care, and love.

What other topics were discussed?

  • developing a diversity statement rubric, supporting the AA studies department
  • discussing the lack of diversity and equity in the hiring & interview process
  • mentoring African American, Indigenous, and Latino/Latina/Latinx Faculty
  • reviving the Grow Your Own Program
  • creating and identifying safe spaces for Black and Brown faculty
  • developing a student version of the faculty survey from AATF
  • submitting a flex day proposal about equity in the hiring process
  • connecting with the Guardsman for better media coverage of our events and initiatives

Our Next Actions:
