Info on benefits and insurance

UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE FOR FACULTY WORKING PART-TIME

Apply for Unemployment Insurance as soon as possible on or after your last day of work. You are entitled to benefits over break even if you have a likely assignment in Spring. You are considered unemployed until that assignment actually starts, since the assignment isn’t guaranteed.

Your application is retroactive only to the Sunday of the week in which you apply, so don’t wait.

For detailed information about how to calculate your earnings and apply for unemployment, see the AFT’s unemployment page.

JANUARY HEALTH PREMIUMS FOR FACULTY WORKING PART-TIME

If your load is under 50% in Spring, your benefits would normally be cut off on January 1. But now there’s a way for part-time faculty to extend their benefits for one more month.

  • If you have a Spring 2020 assignment worth 50% or more, your benefits will continue as normal and you don’t need to worry about this.
  • If you have no assignment in Spring, you can extend your benefits through January by paying the employee part of the premium to the college by December 27th. Your benefits will continue through January 31st.
  • If you’re enrolled in Kaiser Member Only, you have no premium to pay. Your benefits will continue through January 31st automatically. You don’t have to do anything to arrange it.
  • If you have an assignment, but it’s less than 50%, the January deduction will be taken from your January paycheck. Benefits will continue through January 31st. You don’t have to do anything to arrange it.
  • If you pay the college for the premium, and then receive an assignment over 50%, they will refund the payment you made. The refund should happen at the end of February.
  • If you do not pay by December 27th, and you do not have a Spring assignment, your benefits will end January 1.

DENTAL INSURANCE FOR RETIREES WHO WORKED FULL-TIME BEFORE RETIREMENT

If you’re enrolled in AB 528 Dental, please note that the District is changing its payment policy. All payments will be due on the first of each month, starting January 1, 2020. Failure to pay in full may result in termination of your dental insurance.

Our Retiree Chapter is working to negotiate a fair process for these payments. In the meantime, make sure you get your payment to CCSF HR by the 1st.

Weigh in on the 2020/21 Academic Calendar

We had an extensive discussion about the District’s DRAFT 2020/21 Academic Calendar at the November 19th Delegate Assembly. Please take this survey to help craft a counter-proposal to the District, if needed.

Survey for 2020/21 Academic Calendar
Please note there is a mistake in the Summer calendar of the District’s proposal. They list the dates for the 8-week session as Jul 8 – Aug 2. It should be Jun 8 – Aug 2.
