Salarygate

This morning, AFT 2121 members and students packed the Board of Trustees Budget Committee meeting to speak out against exorbitant raises proposed for administrators. A packed room filled with students and faculty, most of them wearing #RedForEd stood in support as Union President Jenny Worley demanded that the Board reject the new pay scale and redirect funds to recalling laid off counselors, restoring library services, and supporting a rich, diverse spring class schedule.

The Budget Committee responded by stating that the raises were not yet in effect, as the Board had not approved them. They then voted to recommend that an independent budget analyst review the raise proposal and report to the whole board.

The next opportunity to show your opposition to the administration raises is next Wednesday at the student-organized “Funeral” protest on Wednesday, 9/25 beginning at 12pm on Ocean Campus in Ram Plaza (see item below for more details).

(9/23) The Balboa Reservoir Project is bulldozing ahead – Submit your public comment to SF Planning Commission NOW

On Tuesday, our Delegate Assembly passed two resolutions regarding the proposed Balboa Reservoir project:

The comment period is an opportunity to identify deficiencies or inaccuracies in the DSEIR (Draft  Subsequent* Environmental Impact Report). Responses to all comments become part of the final record and will influence the upcoming Environmental Impact Report.

Please submit your own individual comment to show the SF Planning Commission that there are broadly held concerns about the Balboa Reservoir project. The deadline is 5:00 pm on Monday, September 23rd. Send your comments to CPC.BalboaReservoir@sfgov.org

Check out AFT 2121’s public comment to help craft your own. Currently, the Balboa Reservoir Project supports mostly market-rate housing with no consideration for 100% affordable options.

*The word “subsequent” refers to the fact that the Balboa Reservoir Project is a revision to the Balboa Park Station Area Plan EIR of 2009. The DSEIR tiers off the analysis that was done in that report.
