Tuesday, 5/14) Pushing back against cuts to coordinator hours

Last Week AFT and DCC partnered for impact negotiations over the District’s cuts to coordinator hours. The District spent the first hour reminding everyone that there are budget constraints. For the second hour, DCC and AFT members spoke passionately and clearly about this vital work that keeps our college running. We reminded the District that a budget is about priorities and keeping our programs alive and thriving is dependent upon the work of our coordinators and other key release time positions. Following the testimony of our members, the District committed to providing a staffing plan to illustrate how this critical work will get done. We are very eager to see what the District has come up with as it will be the first time they have communicated concretely about their plans.
Join us for our next meeting!

Tuesday, May 14th @ 3-5 pm is at Rosenberg 518. (No prep meeting beforehand.)

(Tuesday, 5/14) AFT 2121 Delegate Assembly and COPE meetings

On Tuesday, May 14 all AFT 2121 members are urged to attend our next AFT 2121 Delegate Assembly from 3-5pm and our next COPE meeting from 5-5:30pm on the Ocean Campus in MUB 238.

There are three proposed resolutions for the Delegate Assembly: Resolution in support of equitable and sustainable development of affordable housing, Resolution for AFT National Union Democracy in the 2020 Election, and Vote of no confidence in community college chancellor.

Candidates for District Attorney’s office will be there to answer our questions at the COPE meeting.

The END (of the semester) is almost here! Before you take off for parts unknown, or just get off the grid, be sure to unwind and have fun with your union colleagues!

End-of-semester party*

*OK. Originally it was scheduled as a picnic on May 23rd. But the response so far caused us to re-think it. So, instead of a picnic on a day most people won’t come, we’ll hang at El Rio.

Parking reimbursement

Faculty working at Downtown, Chinatown, Mission and Fort Mason campuses are eligible for 50% reimbursement of parking costs for the hours that they were teaching during Summer 2018, Fall 2018 and Spring 2019. All parking costs must be documented with a receipt. Collect your parking receipts and enter the dollar amounts into our excel spreadsheet. Print the spreadsheet, and attach original receipts in chronological order. Print the appropriate signature form for your campus, complete the form with your scheduled hours, and sign the form. Submit all paperwork according to the instructions for your campus. The forms and further instructions are available here: https://www.aft2121.org/forms-links/parking-reimbursement/
If you have any questions, you can contact your precinct rep, or send an email to Jessica Buchsbaum at jbuchsbaum@aft2121.org

Overpayments and collections

CCSF payroll processes are still broken! Faculty are receiving overpayment notices. If you receive one, do not ignore it or it will be sent to collections.

Read the full policy on overpayments here. Important highlights:

  • If you don’t understand the amount they claim, ask questions.
  • If you understand but do not agree, tell them you’re appealing. It is important to use the word “appeal”, and to copy both Kerry Wilhite and Dianna Gonzales in your email. Then explain why you don’t agree.
  • If you agree, you can propose a comfortable payment plan. You can write checks or you have it deducted directly from your pay.
  • If a class is cut after the semester has started, the college must pay you for the days you actually met with students.
  • The collection agent is forbidden from charging interest.
