Add codes

Because of the difficulties with Banner, the college will temporarily allow students to register for open classes without an add code for 14 days after the first day of a class. This change will go into effect today, Thursday, Jan. 17. Once a class reaches its cap, students will not be able to add without a code. While this is in effect, you should not give out add codes unless your class is at capacity and you wish to admit additional students.
We recognize the problems this may cause; however, after considering the number of low-enrolled classes (and faculty jobs) likely to be salvaged by this measure, AFT leaders agreed to this as a one-time, stop-gap measure to address an emergency situation.
A primary concern for our members is that if some students already have add codes, but others register before the add-code users, then the class may exceed its cap. We have suggested to administration some measures for pre-empting or mitigating this potential pitfall, and will update you on any such measures.
