AFT 2121 to text all faculty and do house visits in the coming week.
Supreme Court’s ruling on the Janus v. AFSCME case means that non-members will no longer have to pay their fair share for union representation; but our Union will still be legally obligated to represent them. It does not mean that we will stop our hard work to continue strengthening our Union!
We’ve got to stick together. Starting this week AFT 2121 will be connecting with as many faculty as we can via text message. We are also doing another big push to connect with folks face-to-face.
This is a critical window to connect with our colleagues before they hear from anti-union interests. With that in mind, we are partnering with Peralta Federation of Teachers (PFT) this weekend to visit the homes of faculty in our bargaining units who have not filled out membership forms. We need your help to reach as many of our faculty as possible. We will hit the pavement to knock on doors and speak to our colleagues in the East Bay
on 8/4 from 11-3:00 and in San Francisco
on 8/5 12-4:00. Can you join us for one or both days of house visits?
Expect pay increases
The new contract that our Union fought for and won went into effect on July 1. Over the next three years, this contract will move all of our Faculty salaries above the median of the ten Bay Area community college districts for the first time since the Accreditation crisis in 2012. In fact, most of the
steps and columns on our pay scale will be AT THE TOP of the Bay Ten. Our new pay-scales now include
new, cumulatively higher pay rates for all.
AFT 2121 Prsesident Jenny Worley’s has a message for all faculty about our pay increases.
July pay will reflect the increase in base pay for faculty working full-time. HOWEVER, administration has told us they won’t be able to update the part-time pay scales until August.
That means July paychecks will reflect the old ratesfor July part-time assignments and full-time overload. In August, those working part-time and overload will receive retro payments to make up the difference.
August checks should have the correct new rates for all faculty.
Our AFT 2121 Finance Committee needs your help
Last year our Union formed a Finance Committee with the goal of increasing member participation and input into AFT 2121’s resource allocation decisions. Yvonne Webb, our newly elected treasurer, is re-extending an invitation to all AFT 2121 members at large to consider participating in the Finance Committee. We need members with both financial and non-financial backgrounds to assist in our budget planning. Want to help? Email Yvonne at
ywebb@aft2121.org.
Congrats to CCSF Trustee Appointee Ivy Lee
Congratulations to our new CCSF Trustee, Ivy Lee. Mayor London Breed has appointed Trustee Lee to replace new District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandleman’s seat for the remainder of his term ending November 2019. Before her appointment to the CCSF Board of Trustees Lee served as Supervisor Jane Kim’s aid and worked closely with our Union to craft the Free City College initiative. AFT 2121 looks forward to continuing to work with Trustee Lee to expand and fully fund the Free City program.
